Local Law Officer Arrested for Stalking

JUNE 13, 2005 -- A prominent longtime local law officer has been arrested.

Joe Guarascio was arrested on misdemeanor stalking charges.

Guarascio is currently the police chief of Interpol, a private police company in Wilmington that he created. He is also a former New Hanover County Sheriff's Deputy.

Guarascio is accused of stalking his ex-girlfriend.

He denies the accusations and said the woman was drunk. He said he followed her home to make sure she was safe.
