From UNCW

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Kutter Crawford struckout seven over seven shutout innings as Florida Gulf Coast University topped UNCW, 5-1, to clinch the weekend series at Brooks Field.

The Eagles ran their record to 9-2 while the Seahawks dropped their sixth straight to dip to 3-6.

Crawford (3-0) limited UNCW to six hits and walked none in picking up the win.

UNCW starter Josh Roberson (0-1) allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits and five walks over a career-high six innings. He finished with six strikeouts.

Nick Rivera went 2-for-4 with a home run, the third of his season. Eli Lovell added two hits and drove in two runs for FGCU.

Nick Feight had two hits for the Seahawks, who averted a shutout on Terence Connelly's RBI single that score Ryan Jeffers in the eighth inning.

Up next: The two teams will conclude the weekend series with an 11:45 a.m. start on Sunday.

How it happened: FGCU got on the board with an unearned run in the first inning when Matt Reardon, who singled to leadoff the game, came around to score on a double, by Julio Gonzalez and an error for a 1-0 lead. FGCU tacked on a run in the third on Rivera's round tripper.

Home Runs: FGCU – Rivera (in 3rd inning off Roberson, none on, one out)

Inside the box score: Both teams struggled with RISP, FGCU (1-11) and UNCW (2-10) … UNCW went 0-3 with the bases loaded, all coming in the second inning … Josh Roberson only let one leadoff hitter reach base while Crawford allowed two … Both teams had four two-out hits.

Notes: Roberson's previous career-long was 5.1 innings at Hofstra (4/19/15) … UNCW dropped its first non-conference home series since 2014 (Indiana State, Mar. 14-15, two games) … UNCW's six-game losing skid is the longest since losing eight straight in 2009.
