NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

Re-elected Commissioners Woody White and Jonathan Barfield, and newly-elected Commissioner Patricia Kusek were officially sworn Monday morning at the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners final regular meeting of 2016. They join Commissioners Skip Watkins and Rob Zapple.

The swearing-in was delayed until the State Board of Elections could resolve two protests filed by John Anderson. The state board voted Dec. 13 to not consider his appeal of the dismissal of his protests by the New Hanover County Board of Elections because he failed to notify the county board of his appeal, which is required by state law.

After administering the new commissioners’ oaths of office, the board moved to selecting its chair and vice chair.

In unanimous votes, White and Watkins were selected as chair and vice chair, respectively.

Prior to swearing in the new commissioners, outgoing Commissioner Beth Dawson was thanked for her service to the county.
