New Hanover Co. mother, son charged with child sex crimes

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A state corrections officer and her son are both facing child sex abuse charges following their arrests Wednesday.

Charri Raye Russell, 38, was charged with felony child abuse-sexual act and booked under a $150,000 bond.

Talan Dennis Kingsley, 16, was charged with two counts each of statutory rape and indecent liberties with a child. He was given a $250,000 bond.

According to arrest warrants, Russell "unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously" allowed the sexual abuse between her son and the alleged victim to occur.

The offenses took place between March 17 and August 9, warrants allege.

Russell currently works as an officer at the Tabor Correctional Institution, according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

Officials said Russell was suspended from her position on Nov. 13 due to conduct.
