Wilmington's newest shopping destination hopes to make its debut in February or March.

The Pointe at Barclay's first two retail buildings, anchored by a 14-screen movie theatre, are nearing completion. The plaza will be located at the intersection of Independence Boulevard and 17th Street in Wilmington.

They'll be filled with businesses like Duck Donuts, Chop's Deli, Zocallo Street Food & Tequila, Tavern on 17th, and Il Forno Pizzeria - the latest project from the Circa Group that also operates Circa 1922, Osteria Cicchetti, Brasserie du Soleil and Boca Bay.

Other tenants include Sports Clips, Which Wich and Orangetheory Fitness.

Hill Rogers, broker in charge at Cameron Management, represents The Pointe at Barclay and said construction is set to begin on other buildings within the next 30 days.

In all, plans show at least seven more retail buildings, office space, a park and a 402-unit luxury apartment complex, and a grocery store.

"We'd like to have a grocery store," Rogers said. "Of course, there's a lot of grocery competition, but I think what we're delivering, the grocery stores will see what we're bringing to the table."

In comparison, Mayfaire Town Center is around 400 acres, while The Pointe at Barclay stretches 34 acres. Rogers said they've paid attention to detail and hope to make it a warm, inviting environment.

"We're kinda smack dab in the middle of a mixed use complex -- it's convenient, it's going to be fun and nice," Rogers said.
