Pender Co. man pleads guilty to first-degree rape

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A Watha man pleaded guilty in Pender County Superior Court to first-degree rape this week.

According to District Attorney Ben David, Humberto Torrez, 37, was sentenced to a minimum of 20 years and a maximum of 28 years in prison.

Once Torrez is released he will be placed on post-release supervision for 60 months and must register as a sex offender for life.

Torrez is accused of raping a 10-year-old girl in 2012. When he was confronted by the victim and law enforcement investigators in 2015, he admitted to the crime.
