New Mosquito Repellant on the Market

MAY 23, 2005 -- Memorial Day is just around the corner and so is mosquito season.

The Centers for Disease Control says anyone spending time outdoors should be using mosquito repellant. Officials estimate that only 40 percent of people around the nation use repellant.

For many years DEET was the recommended repellant, but now officials are backing two new products. These products are called Picaridin and Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.

Along with wearing repellant there are other ways to avoid mosquito bites. Wear light colored clothing with long sleeves and long pants when going outside and avoid outdoor activities at dawn and dusk. Also make sure to empty any standing water.
