SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) -
A driver was taken to the hospital in Brunswick County Wednesday morning after an accident caused his car to be submerged in water.
According to police, the driver has a medical condition that caused a seizure.
The car was still in gear and the driver was still buckled in when an officer jumped in the water to pull him out.
The car went over the edge of Waterfront Park in Southport around 6 a.m.
"It's not something you expect to be fishing out of the waterfront," said facilities manager Harlan Pyles who received a text about the accident. "Like I said, we've already sustained some damage, so it did a bit more."
