Fallen Soldier Laid to Rest

MAY 21, 2005 -- Family and friends gathered on Saturday to honor a fallen Wilmington soldier.

Sgt. Mac Smith was killed in Iraq after an explosion near his convoy.

Smith was laid to rest at the National Cemetery in Wilmington.

Members of the 82nd Airborne carried his flag covered casket from St. Paul's Lutheran Church to the grave site.

In addition to a folded flag, Smith's parents were given four medals including a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.
