Funeral Plans for Fallen Wilmington Soldier

MAY 18, 2005 -- The family of a Wilmington soldier killed in Iraq has finalized the plans for his funeral.

Sgt. Mac Smith died when a bomb exploded under his convoy last week. He was 22 years old and serving his second tour of duty in Iraq.

Before joining the military, Smith graduated from New Hanover High School where he played football and lacrosse. He was also in ROTC for four years.

Sgt. Smith's funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Wilmington. That service is open to the public.  A private burial will follow.
