UNCW men's soccer team earns 3rd seed in CAA Tournament

RICHMOND, Va. (November 1, 2016) – The pairings for the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Soccer Championship have been determined. Hofstra University has clinched the top seed and earned the right to host the semifinals and the final, November 11-13, at Hofstra Soccer Stadium.

Hofstra, the defending CAA champions, locked up the top seed and the CAA Regular Season Championship two weeks ago. The Pride (9-7-1; 7-1-0 CAA) and No. 2 Seed Delaware (10-7-1; 5-3-0 CAA) have both received quarterfinal byes. 
Quarterfinal action is set for Saturday, November 5 with No. 3 Seed UNCW (8-5-3; 3-2-3 CAA) hosting No. 6 Seed College of Charleston (5-8-3; 3-3-2 CAA) and No. 4 Seed Elon (7-5-4; 3-2-3 CAA) hosting No. 5 Seed William & Mary (10-6-2; 3-3-2 CAA) at 7pm. Both games will be contested on campus sites of the higher seeds. The winners of those two contests advance to the semifinals on November 11 in Hempstead, N.Y.

The Pride is hosting the final two rounds of CAA Championship for the second straight season. Hofstra is making its fifth-straight tournament appearance and ninth overall. Delaware is making its fourth-straight CAA Championship appearance and sixth overall. It's the first time the Blue Hens have been the second seed.

UNCW is making its fifth straight CAA Championship appearance while College of Charleston is earned its second straight berth It's also the Seahawks' first home game in the tournament since 2009. The Cougars and the Seahawks tied, 1-1, during the regular season.

Elon has qualified for the CAA Championship in each of its three seasons in the league while William & Mary is making its 22nd tournament appearance and first since 2013. During the regular season, the Phoenix posted a 2-0 win over the Tribe.

The semifinals times are set with Delaware playing the winner of the UNCW/CofC game at 4:30 p.m. and Hofstra playing the winner of the Elon/William & Mary game at 7:00 p.m. The championship title game is slated for Sunday, November 13 at 2:30 p.m. and airs live on the American Sports Network (ASN).
