Company Expansion Brings Jobs to Wilmington Area

MAY 16, 2005 -- The New Hanover County Commissioners voted Monday to offer G.E. a package of incentives. The commissioners hope the cash incentives will allow General Electric to expand. G.E. is looking to expand both its aircraft and nuclear operations.

It moved the headquarters of its nuclear operation to Castle Hayne in 2003. The expansion would bring 200 jobs to the area. G.E. would get more than $2 million over seven years.

Commissioners say the county must offer incentives to compete. The commission also voted to give more than $1.5 million in incentives to Fortron, a chemical and plastics company off Highway 421.
