MAY 16, 2005 -- Nearly 200 Brunswick County inmates are in a new home following a move that took place under the cover of darkness.
Inmates, under close watch by guards and dogs, were transferred to the new jail in Bolivia.
The new $7.2 million facility replaces the old overcrowded jail built in the 1970's. Inmates are now monitored by video cameras and an intercom system controlled by a central command center.
Sheriff Ron Hewett says that although the new cells are more spacious, they're not intended to be pleasant.
The jail also features a hallway that connects the jail directly to the county courthouse.
