MAY 16, 2005 -- One dog is rushed to the veterinarian, and another is taken to New Hanover County Animal Control following a weekend attack. Investigators say it happened Sunday morning at the Port 'O Pines housing complex off Murrayville Road.
Shirley Elliot was walking her beagle, Buddy, when she says an un-leashed pit bull attacked. Elliot says she held on to Buddy's collar as the pit bull dragged them both through a yard. A neighbor ended up being attacked as well.
This isn't the first time the owners have been cited for allowing their pit bull to run loose, but it is the first attack in the complex.
Elliot is just glad that Buddy is alive. The pit bull will stay in quarantine for ten days. The owner of the pit bull must pay for the time at the shelter and a $500 fine.
