WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Redshirt junior forward Julio Moncada scored the game’s only goal in the 10th minute as UNCW held off Delaware to earn a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory in the Seahawks’ home finale at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Saturday evening. 

The win, which ended UNCW’s three-game losing streak, elevated the Seahawks’ record to 8-5-2 overall and 3-2-2 in the CAA. Meanwhile, Delaware dropped to 10-7-1 overall with a 5-3-0 mark in league play. 

Moncada, who netted his sixth game-winning goal of the season, gave the Seahawks a 1-0 lead with 35:34 left in the first half when he took a pass from freshman midfielder Phillip Goodrum and tallied his eighth goal of the season. 

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Cretens earned his fifth shutout of the season for the Seahawks despite not needing to make a save UNCW limited Delaware to just two shots in the second half. 

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Todd Morton made two saves in the loss for Delaware, which lost for the third time in the last four games.  

#SeahawkStats: UNCW improved to 10-5-1 all-time against Delaware … The Seahawks finish the home portion of their regular season home schedule with a 5-2-1 record … Moncada tied the school single-season record with his sixth game-winning goal of the season, matching the mark set by Jamie Dell (2014) and Derek Ford (1998) … Moncada also has the game-winning goal in all three of the Seahawks’ conference wins this year … UNCW held Delaware to a season-low two shots … It was also the fewest shots in a game for Delaware since Oct. 14, 2005 … The two shots are also the fewest by a UNCW opponent since James Madison on Oct. 12, 2013 … Senior defender Gary O’Neill was honored in a pre-game ceremony.
