PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Moore's Creek National Park in Currie has reopened to the public.
The 44-acre park had been closed nearly three weeks in the aftermath of heavy flooding from Hurricane Matthew.
Parts of the park were inundated with floodwaters from the creek and Black River. Some areas more than eight feet underwater.
Five of the six monuments were covered with water. Patriot's Hall, where the park holds events, remains closed. The park garden is destroyed, and the scenic boardwalk is undergoing repairs after trees damaged the area.
The park is looking for volunteers to assist in cleanup efforts. If you are interested you can give them a call at 910-283-5591
