WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Nicole Lott finished with a team-high 10 kills for UNCW in a losing cause as Towson swept the Seahawks, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 27-25) in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Friday at Trask Coliseum.
The Tigers picked up a valuable road win in the conference and improved to 29-5 overall and 6-3 in the league. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped to 14-7 and below .500 in league play at 4-5.
"We had opportunities in the first and third sets, but could not capitalize," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Our offense needs to come together as a total unit in order to have a better chance of beating the top teams in the CAA."
Jessica Lewis and Jocelyn Kuilan combined for 29 kills on the match with Lewis collecting a match-high 15. Libero Anna Holehouse posted a double-double with 13 digs and 11 assists while setter Marrisa Wonders crafted a double-double of her own with 17 assists and 18 digs. Julymar Otero finished with a match-high 22 assists.
Freshman Kendall Bender had nine kills and a match-high seven blocks for the Seahawks.
How it happened: Towson controlled the match, hitting .286 and building a 52-35 advantage in kills.
Notes: UNCW was swept for the second time this season and fell to 4-3 at home ... The match was one of two this season being played in Trask Coliseum ... Alyssa Desjardins became UNCW's all-time serve attempts leader with 1,605.
