Former hotel employee charged with taking items from guest rooms

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A former employee at a downtown hotel is accused of stealing items from guest rooms.

According to Wilmington Police Department officials, a guest at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside told police on Sept. 24 that someone had gone into her room and her iPad was missing on Sept. 24.

Later that same day, police were called back to the hotel after another guest on the same floor reported items missing from another room. The manager of the hotel told police that an employee that had been terminated the day before had been seen on the premises that day.

Courtany Lawrence, 19, was arrested in the case Tuesday. According to court records, she has been charged with:

  • three counts of breaking and entering
  • two counts larceny after breaking and entering
  • two counts of larceny by an employee
  • resisting a public officer
  • felony conspiracy
  • two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses
  • conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses

Her bond was set at $35,000.
