WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A man claimed he was shot in the leg during a drive-by shooting on Walnut Street in Wilmington Tuesday afternoon.

According to Wilmington Police Department officials, the call came in at around 3:30 p.m. near McRae and Walnut streets.

When officers arrived on the scene, the 26-year-old victim was not able to give them a description of the car involved in the shooting or the location where it happened. Officers were able to locate the crime scene in the backyard of a home at 806 Walnut St. where it appeared a scuffle had taken place.

The victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

Nearby D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy sheltered in place briefly as a result of the shooting.

The case is still under investigation.
