BOLIVIA, NC (WECT) -

Brunswick County Schools students will have more chances to take over night trips and travel internationally, superintendent Les Tubb said Tuesday.

During the Brunswick County Schools Board of Education meeting, Tubb told board members that during a recent parent advisory council meeting, parents were overwhelmingly in favor of students making more of these trips.

He said that parents pointed to the fact that a lot of students wouldn't have a chance to visit some of these destinations if they didn't go with a school group.

"As long as we carefully choose where they are going, I will approve these trips," Tubb said. "This is an opportunity most students will not have even as adults."

Tubb said he will keep the board members updated on upcoming trips at each board meeting. He also said that student safety is a high priority, and that he and other staff will monitor the State Department website for any potential warnings and threats at any trip destination.
