WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) -

A Bladen County man is accused of stealing hundreds of dollars from a Whiteville business during a "snatch-and-grab" robbery.

According to Whiteville police, Patrick Kely Prevatte, 29, of Bladenboro, entered the Tractor Supply on Oct. 13 around 8 p.m. and acted like he wanted to pay for a drink.

When the clerk opened the drawer, Prevatte allegedly reached into the drawer to take out the cash. A struggle between Prevatte and the clerk ensued and he eventually made off with more than $1,000 in cash.

Witnesses told Whiteville police that the suspect ran towards a wooded area near the store. Officers searched the area and eventually found an abandoned car with its windows down. Police found items inside the vehicle that belonged to Prevatte.

Detectives obtained surveillance video from the store and were able to positively match the suspect in the video to Prevatte.

Det. Herring contacted Prevatte's family and arranged for Prevatte's surrender at the Whiteville Police Department Monday.

He was charged with common law robbery and larceny; both are felonies. Prevatte was also served a Brunswick County warrant for failure to appear on larceny and possession of stolen goods charges.

Prevatte's bond was set at more than $1 million.
