TOWSON, Maryland – Senior defender Marissa Green scored the game’s only goal in the 25th minute as Towson held off UNCW to earn a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory at the Tiger Soccer Complex on Friday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who suffered their first road loss of the season, dropped to 8-4-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the CAA. Towson improved to 6-9-1 overall with a 3-3-0 mark in league play.

“Today was another good CAA battle,” Head Coach Paul Cairney said. “We created some decent chances, but not enough dangerous chances. Our players still worked hard for each other but we need more quality to win games in this league.

“Towson is a tough team at home and deserves a lot of credit for earning the win today,” Cairney continued. “[Coach] Greg [Paynter] does a great job with his team. We will dust off, regroup and get ready for a talented James Madison team on Sunday.”

Green gave Towson the one-goal lead with 20:21 left in the first half when she scored her third goal of the season off assists from freshman Justine Stoner and senior Emily Marshall.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Taylor Sebolao made three saves in the win for Towson to record her fifth shutout of the season.

Senior goalkeeper Liisa Rahkola tallied one save for UNCW, which outshot the Tigers by a 16-9 margin.
