DOT crews will conduct intermittent lane closures on the Holden Beach bridge beginning Monday, Oct. 17 and ending on Thursday, Oct. 20.

The closures will last from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day.

One lane will be closed in each direction so crews can perform routine maintenance and inspections as part of the bridge's biannual inspection process.

Although there will not be any detours, drivers are urged to seek alternate routes. Motorists are also advised to use caution while traveling in the area and to expect possible delays.  The Department of Transportation reminds motorists to stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.

The Federal Highway Administration requires all bridges to be inspected once every two years.  Regular inspections help the department identify whether a bridge needs maintenance and repair, then schedule them accordingly.  If inspectors find a safety concern, the bridge will be repaired or closed immediately until the repairs can be made.  If necessary, weight restrictions will be placed on a bridge. The department will not keep a bridge open if it is determined to be unsafe.
