UNCW volleyball snaps losing streak at Charleston

UNCW Press Release

CHARLESTON, South Carolina - Fueled by a career-high 22 kills from sophomore Maddy Kline and five Seahawks in double-digit digs, UNCW tripped Colonial Athletic Association co-leader College of Charleston, 3-2 (23-25, 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 15-8), in a key conference volleyball match on Thursday at TD Arena.

The Seahawks halted a three-match losing skid with the road win and improved to 13-6 overall and 3-4 in the conference. CofC, meanwhile, dipped to 12-7 and 5-2.

"I'm so proud of our players and their efforts tonight," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "There was a heavy emphasis on the type of attitude and focus we wanted on our side of the net. Tonight we played a complete unit and we accomplished what we wanted to do."

Kline surpassed her previous career-high of 20 kills set earlier this season and finished with a .333 hitting average in 57 attacks. She added 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.

"Maddy played fearless offensively tonight," said Bambenek.

Defensively, sophomore Sydney Alvis paced UNCW with 30 digs for the second time this season while Nicole Lott added 20 while senior Alyssa Desjardins and Katie McCullough, a sophomore, chipped in 17 and 16, respectively. The Seahawks finished with a 113-107 advantage in the dig department on the evening.
