MAY 12, 2005 -- A 17-year-old teenager has been arrested in connection with a rape of another student on a Pender County school bus. Authorities say both the defendant and the victim are students at Heide Trask High School.

Dominique Morman was arrested Thursday and taken to the Pender County Jail.  He is charged with raping a 17-year-old mentally handicapped student on a bus in April.  Police say the two were the only passengers riding home from Trask High School.

The victim told investigators the driver, Cordelia Bannerman, did not stop the assault. Authorities say Bannerman could be charged in the case. Bannerman is still driving school buses. The Pender County Superintendent has reassigned her to drive for Cape Fear Middle School.

If Morman is convicted of the crime, he could spend forty years in jail.
