PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – Junior forward Julio Moncada scored the game’s only goal in the 72nd minute to lead No. 24 UNCW to a 1-0 victory over Drexel in a Colonial Athletic Association game at Vidas Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who extended their unbeaten streak to three straight games, upped their record to 6-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the CAA. Drexel dropped to 1-7-2 overall and 0-3-0 in league play after suffering its fifth loss in a row.

“That was an important three points on the road today,” Coach Aidan Heaney said. “As expected, the Drexel players worked very hard in the game, so it was by no means easy.

“I was proud of how our team performed,” Heaney added. “We showed great focus and desire to get the victory and did a good job of limiting Drexel’s chances. It’s especially pleasing to win and secure a shutout as well.”

Moncada gave UNCW the one-goal lead with 18:04 remaining in regulation when he converted a penalty kick for his fifth goal of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Cretens earned his fourth shutout of the season after making two saves for the Seahawks, who limited Drexel to just three shots.

Senior goalkeeper Tyler Afflerbach tallied five saves in the loss for Drexel.
