Tuesday was National Voter Registration Day and UNCW wanted to make sure their students were registered to vote.
As just one event during this week's UNCW Votes Week, the university hosted a campus-wide voter registration event to inform and educate the students on the importance of voting and being an engaged citizen. Their goal was to encourage students to register and exercise their right to vote in the upcoming election.
Many of the schools organizations were at the event to talk to their fellow classmates about how and why voting is important to their organization.
Many organization leaders said their goal at the event was to get as many people registered and interested in voting as they possibly could. They believe that as college students, voting is even more crucial because they are the future. One student, Cierra Washington, said her goal at the event was to make sure students understand the importance of educating themselves before they cast their vote.
"Everything's being thrown around in this election and there's a lot of mistrust and a lot of confusion about different things and it's really important that people are informed before they just make an assumption or make that decision" said Washington.
The organizations at the event provided students with blank registration forms and information about the registration process. The completed forms will be submitted to the New Hanover County Board of Elections.
