Fire Damages Well-Known Business

MAY 10, 2005-- A convenience store and thrift store in Brunswick County have been heavily damaged by fire.

The Midway store located on Highway 211 between Southport and Supply caught fire around noon Tuesday.

The thrift store is a loss.  Employees had to toss out bags of clothes that had been damaged.  The windows are boarded up and the outside of the building is black with soot.

Five fire departments responded to the fire.  It took a few hours to get it under control.

Highway 211 was closed for several hours while firefighters worked to put out the flames.

The convenience store next to the thrift store was not as badly damaged, but it is closed until further notice.
