MAY 9, 2005 -- EMS workers in Pender County will now have an easier time keeping people safe in an emergency.
The new Pender County EMS opened its doors on Monday.
A $2-million loan helped pay for the building as well as a new Maple Hill EMS station. The loan also helped pay for renovations to the substations in Hampstead, Burgaw, Surf City and Atkinson.
The facilities will serve more than 41,000 people.
