MAY 9, 2005 -- Opponents of the Hugo Neu Landfill were out rallying Monday night in Wilmington. They were looking for a way to defeat a project they said would scar the environment.
The facility that recycles material from junk cars would be built off Mount Misery Road in Navassa. The mayor of that town and other supporters say Hugo Neu offers the promise of good jobs.
The Brunswick Citizens for a Safe Environment say those jobs come at too great a cost. Members of that group talked at a Sierra Club meeting in Wilmington Monday night.
Some state and county lawmakers say they will do everything in their power to fight the landfill.
