MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – Senior goalkeeper Carolyn Huddy matched the UNCW career shutout record as the Seahawks earned a 0-0 draw against College of Charleston in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams at Patriot Point on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who played their third overtime game of the season, improved to 6-2-2 overall on the season with a 0-0-1 mark in the CAA. College of Charleston saw its record move to 7-3-1 overall with an identical 0-0-1 record in league play.
“Today was a classic CAA Sunday game,” Coach Paul Cairney said. “Both teams created some decent chances, but neither team could get a hold of the game. I thought our team battled very well today. We may be low in numbers, but I believe we are incredibly high in spirit.
“I felt like Carolyn made some great saves to keep us in the game and we created some great chances as well,” Cairney continued. “We will take a point on the road and get ready for a very talented Northeastern team on Friday.”
Huddy, who made a season-high six saves against the Cougars, posted the 16th shutout of her career to equal the school record set by Carla Linebarger, who tallied 16 shutouts during her career from 1996-99.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Killian tallied eight saves for the Cougars, who extended their unbeaten streak to eight straight games following an 0-3-0 start.
UNCW outshot Charleston by a 16-12 margin, including a 4-2 count in the overtime periods.
