WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Big Dawg Productions is performing the The 39 Steps, a comedy adapted from the 1935 film by Alfred Hitchcock.

It has a cast of four. One man plays the hero Richard Hannay. The other three play the rest of the characters, including spies, love interests, businessmen, villains, innkeepers, pilots and elderly men. The character changes are often quick, with actors playing multiple roles in one scene.

The play is a spy story that starts when a mysterious woman is killed in Hannay’s flat. He is then tasked with discovering what the 39 Steps are and why they’re vital to the country’s security.

The show pays homage to many of Hitchcock’s classic movies like Rear Window, Psycho and North by Northwest.
