WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
UNC Wilmington will conduct a full-volume test of its Seahawk Warning Siren System at noon on Monday, Sept. 12.
In conjunction with the siren, UNCW also will test additional emergency communication tools, including email, phone and text notifications as well as CREST Research Park's emergency beacons.
The siren is an outdoor emergency warning tool that may not be audible inside some university buildings.
No action will be required during the test.
Officials said that in an actual emergency, students, faculty and staff should take shelter indoors, monitor UNCW's communications tools for information and wait to be notified that everything is clear.
Only those who have voluntarily registered their cell phone numbers with UNCW will receive the emergency text messages and voicemails during the test and actual emergency situations.
