Thousands of new students moved into their dorms at UNCW Saturday morning.
Volunteers were on campus as early as 6:30 Saturday morning to help freshmen get settled.
Families took a load off as the volunteers unpacked vehicles and took everything to the dorm rooms.
Students in the Class of 2020 said they were welcomed into the university with open arms.
"That's extremely helpful. I'm really happy about that because carrying all that stuff in the North Carolina heat would have been really annoying," said freshman Alea Aul. "But it's really great that they were so helpful and kind out here that they are gonna help us out."
More than 1,000 volunteers were stationed at each of the dorms, excited to help out their future colleagues and friends. UNCW Chancellor Jose Sartarelli was among them, but he gives a lot of the credit to student volunteers.
"The reason we have so many volunteers, which is student volunteers, is very important. Because these are people that are going to be their friends, their colleagues," stated Sartarelli.
According to Sartarelli, the incoming freshman class will increase to more than 2,200 students.
