New Development in the Works for Downtown Wilmington

APRIL 27, 2005 -- Developers are working on an ambitious project that would dramatically change the look of the Wilmington skyline.

Gene Merrit along with Peggy and Bud Dealey are hoping to bring what they call a resort lifestyle to the Water Street area with restaurants, condos, and shopping in four large buildings.

The Wachovia Bank building and an old parking deck would be demolished to make room for a complex .

Merrit says the new development would give the area a different look, but would blend in with the old buildings at the same time

If the development moves along with no major roadblocks, it will still take at least three years to complete.
