ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Christian Volesky and Steevan Dos Santos each tallied a goal and assisted each other's tallies as the Rochester Rhinos defeated Wilmington Hammerheads FC 2-0 on Saturday at Rhinos Stadium. It was the Rhinos' first multi-goal game since July 16, having previously gone through a stretch of only three goals in four games. The timing of Rochester's goals put Wilmington in a predicament as Volesky's goal occurred late in the first half and Dos Santos' score came within the first couple minutes of the second half. With the victory, the Rhinos improve to 9-5-8 (35 points) overall and 7-2-3 at home. Wilmington falls to 6-9-6 (24 points) overall and 3-5-3 on the road. This was the first of two regular-season meetings between the two clubs. Wilmington will host Rochester on Aug. 27 at Legion Stadium.

Three Things That Mattered:
1. The Rhinos did exactly what any coach would ask for – finished the first half strong, opened the second half with another spark and then maintaining a strong defense for the remainder of the match. The striking tandem of Christian Volesky and Steevan Dos Santos did the legwork on the scoring side. Dos Santos worked well to attack from the left flank to set up Volesky's opening goal in the 44th minute. Then in the 47th, Volesky returned the favor with a hustle play to the ball on the right side of the box. He dished to Dos Santos waiting at the edge of the six and slotted it home for a two-goal cushion. Volesky leads the Rhinos with seven goals and is tied for the team lead with Dos Santos with three assists. Dos Santos now has five tallies this year.
2. The clean sheet was the Rhinos' seventh of the season as Rochester continues to produce relatively well on that side of the pitch. Rochester has conceded one goal or less in 11 consecutive matches. The credit goes to the back line limiting the number of shots on frame. Chase Miller, making his first start, came through with some key deflections and blocks.
3. Rochester dictated most of the play throughout the first half, and the Rhinos easily could have struck multiple times in the opening 45 minutes if not for the work of Wilmington goalkeeper Eric Ati. As early as the third minute, Ati was called upon with some superb work in the box, but it was his 26th-minute double save that stood out. Kenardo Forbes fired the first shot from outside the box, with Ati stretching with every bit of his frame to stop the attempt from going in the upper right corner. Rochester kept the pressure up and Ati turned away another shot by Dos Santos from the right post to keep the defending USL champions off the score sheet at that point in the match.
