WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
UNC Wilmington confirmed that the College Republicans (a student organization) will be sponsoring the campaign event for Donald J. Trump for President on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m., in Trask Coliseum. Doors open at 11 a.m.
Chancellor Sartarelli will not be attending the event. He is scheduled to be out of town Tuesday for a long-standing commitment.
This event is not endorsed by the university and will be held per university policy regarding the right of student organizations to host speakers and events.
"We are extremely excited to have Mr. Trump coming to visit us. We will formally endorse Trump at the rally in the hopes that the rest of North Carolina can unify around Trump to win in November," College Republicans President Kyle Lewis said.
As of Monday afternoon, tickets for Trump's event were no longer available. Registration or tickets to the event will not guarantee entry. Entrance is on a first come, first serve basis. Please limit personal items in order to expedite the screening process.
This will be the first event for a presidential candidate since the primaries ended earlier this year. During the primary, Carly Fiorina, Jeb Bush and Ben Carson all held private fundraisers in the Cape Fear region.
Shortly after this campaign, Trump will head to Fayetteville to campaign at the Crown Arena at 1960 Coliseum Drive. Doors will tentatively open at 3 p.m. in Fayetteville with the event beginning at 5:15 p.m.
