Wilmington, NC — Wilmington Hammerheads FC announce the addition of midfielder Michael Binns for the remainder of their 20th anniversary season, pending FIFA ITC approval.

Binns, 27, was born in Clarendon, Jamaica and began his soccer career with the Jamaican National Youth Team. In 2008, he went on to make the Jamaican U-20 Team for World Cup Qualifier in Mexico.

After a successful youth career, Binns came to the United States to play for Blazer FC followed by the Clarema FC, both in the Caribbean Americas Super League. From there he furthered his experience with the Brooklyn Knights and Schulz Academy in the Premier Development League (PDL).

Most recently, the left footer represented Jamaica in the 2016 Copa América and saw action against Venezuela, Mexico, and Uruguay. Binns stated in a recent interview regarding his signing, “Firstly, I would like to thank the Wilmington Hammerheads FC for giving me this opportunity to represent the club. I’m excited about the future that lies ahead and I looking forward to helping the team push for the playoffs. I would also like to thank Mark and his staff and I’m ready to help the boys secure 3 points this weekend.”

Head coach Mark Briggs added, “Michael is a strong addition at this point in the season. He has the skillset, and fresh legs to help us earn a playoff spot.”
