HOLLY SPRINGS, NC-- There was no shortage of offense for the Wilmington Sharks (24-16, 8-5) on Monday night as they scored nine runs to defeat the Holly Springs Salamanders (16-20, 6-4) by a score of 9-3.
The Sharks first took the lead in the second inning with RBI singles from Madison Stokes (South Carolina), Clark Scolamiero (South Carolina), and Mark Donadio (Fordham). Leading 3-0, they added two more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. Matt Meeder (Mercer) reached on an error in the fourth the plated two, and Stokes tripled to bring home two more in the fifth.
Holly Springs finally got on the board in the fifth. They scored three, but left two more on base in one of their only opportunities to score. Other than that, the Salamanders had trouble mounting any sort of a comeback. The Sharks added two more in the seventh, one on a Stokes homer, to make an almost insurmountable lead.
The win went to Evan Eubanks (3-1). He threw five innings, with seven hits, three runs, two earned, three walks and one strikeouts. Chandler Sanburn (0-4) took the loss, pitching four innings, allowing five runs, four earned, on seven hits, one walk and one strikeout.
