WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) -

School lunch experts are hosting a culinary institute in Columbus County that will include school lunch managers from across the state.

Directors from Whiteville City Schools and Columbus, New Hanover, Bladen counties will be assisting in the K-12 institute.

The institute is set to help diversify nutrition varieties among schools across the state and the region.

The workshop was developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The goal of the institute is to improve student health, increase participation in nutrition programs and continue the increase of fruits and vegetables

Some sessions in the institute will include making meals from scratch, portion sizes and making nutritional information available to parents and students when asked.
