WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

As we get ready to celebrate America on July 4, we’re celebrating one of America’s favorite dishes on WECT News First at Four.
Eryn Roberts, the Wilmington Ambassador for Yelp, shared the following recommendations for the best burgers in town, according to Yelpers:

Fork N Cork 4.5 Stars

Recently voted #2 best burger in the Carolinas by AAA, this local burger is worth traveling for. What started as the Patty Wagon Food Truck in 2011 quickly morphed into a brick and mortar in the heart of downtown Wilmington known as Fork N Cork. Here is where comfort and bar food meet for a creative high-end twist. Specialty burgers, mac & cheese and pot pie’s offered daily. Fork N Cork is also great for brunch. Yelpers love the unique quality ingredients and the personable owner.

Winnies Tavern 4.5 Stars

Often voted the best burger in Wilmington, locals love the unpretentious location, divvy atmosphere, slightly rustic exterior and reasonably priced burgers. The menu never changes and the drink specials are a great bargain. You can’t have a juicy burger without fries and Yelpers love the many options including sweet potato or Cajun fries. Loads of regulars can't be wrong and they've been here for 54 years, they must be doing something right!

Wayfarer Deli & Bistro 4.5 Stars

Far from traditional, this bistro is tiny and chic. Inspired by the “wayfarer” concept, Chef Carey & Ron use food to travel the globe without restrictions of a specific cuisine to use ingredients and recipes found from cultures and food suppliers all over the world. Although the menu is mostly salads and paninis, they make specialty bison burgers on Thursday’s and Saturday’s so plan accordingly. Yep, these juicy burgers are so special they aren’t even on the menu. They are also only open from 11-5. Yelpers love the “Wildly creative sandwiches and TOP OF THE LINE mac n' cheese.”

Blue Surf Café 4.5 Stars

Blue Surf is one of a handful of local restaurants that have earned the title of Ocean Friendly Establishment. The restaurant uses local ingredients and has a huge menu but the burger is a clear stand out favorite based on the reviews. These burgers are perfect for any dietary preference. Beef can be substituted for shrimp or gluten free black bean. Yelpers love the casual and beachy atmosphere. Don’t forget to try the daily specials, there is always something new to eat.
