WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Rep. Ted Davis (R-New Hanover County) says he and other lawmakers have worked on a bill to address the controversial HB2 law passed by lawmakers and signed into law earlier this year by Gov. Pat McCrory.
The law mandates that transgender individuals use public restrooms that correspond to the gender on their birth certificate.
"I have been a member of a small group of house members that have been working on a possible resolution to certain provisions of HB2," Davis said in a text message Tuesday afternoon. "I am not at liberty to discuss the details at this time."
WECT asked Davis and other Wilmington-area lawmakers whether they had seen the draft legislation leaked earlier in the day. Those who responded said they had not seen the bill. You can read that legislation and reaction to it by clicking here: http://bit.ly/299813K
Davis would not say if he is one of the lawmakers who worked on the leaked legislation. The document shown in an earlier report did not list any sponsors.
