WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - An organization is making moves with the hopes of becoming a permanent bike shop sooner than later.
Special Pedals Incorporated is in the process of becoming a non-profit organization in Wilmington and the group currently provides individualized training and employment for adults with disabilities.
Special Pedals is participating in the Bike for Every Child Fundraiser at UNCW's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.
Monday night's event will feature live music, a corn hole tournament and raffles. There will also be bike mechanics on site for tune-ups and tire repairs.
According to the group's website, the goal is to raise enough money toward becoming a mobile bike shop until it can move into a permanent location on UNCW's campus.
The group wants to partner with universities to build a "fulfilling work experience" for any and every one.
The bike shops will both train and employ adults with disabilities while also providing college students convenient, low-cost, bicycles or bike repairs, according to organizers.
Watch WECT First at Four on Monday to learn how the group evolved and where they hope to open a permanent location.
