On the final day of the Major League Draft, Gavin Stupienski, Steven Linkous and Jared Gesell all heard their names called, giving UNCW a total of four players selected in the three-day draft.
Stupienski was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 12th round while the Colorado Rockies drafted Steven Linkous and Jared Gesell in the 22nd and 23rd rounds, respectively. The trio joined Taylor Hyssong, who was picked by the Atlanta Braves in the eighth round on Friday.
Stupienski, a second-team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, hit .349 with 14 home runs and 61 runs batted in. All were career-highs for the red-shirt junior, who split time between catcher, first base and designated hitter.
Linkous, a senior outfielder, spurred the Seahawks at the top of the order, setting a school single-season record with 78 runs scored, which also led the NCAA. While hitting at the top of the lineup, Linkous also hit a team-leading .378 and drove in 43 runs. He paced the team with a .460 on base average and 29 steals while earning first-team All-CAA honors for a second straight season.
Gesell, a senior, anchored the bullpen with 27 appearances and finished with a team-high five saves. The righthander struck out 41 batters in 30.1 innings while limiting opponents to a .240 batting average.
