FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Students touring schools in one South Carolina county saw safety and health concerns at one high school, including moldy carpet that teachers rip out rather than let students walk on it. The Morning News of Florence reports that the student facilities committee of Florence School District One found those problems at West Florence High School.
GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) - Officials have placed a fence topped with barbed wire around the iconic water tower in South Carolina that's painted like a peach. The general manager of the Gaffney Board of Public Works says the chain-link fence was put up earlier this month after a round of nighttime vandalism at the water tower along Interstate 85. General manager Donnie Hardin tells told the Herald-Journal of Spartanburg that people were carving their initials in the tower's base or spray painting it.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. (AP) - An education board in South Carolina has refused to release federal subpoenas served to two school district employees concerning documents related to an FBI investigation about the construction of two schools. The Island Packet in Hilton Head reports the Beaufort County Board of Education decided to deny Freedom of Information Act requests for copies of the subpoenas.
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Parents of children who died from college hazing are gathering in South Carolina to determine how they can prevent other such deaths. The State newspaper of Columbia reports the gathering of parents of 16 children who died will be held Feb.
