PITTSFORD, New York – UNCW’s Thomas Eldridge carded a three-under-par score of 67 in the opening round on Wednesday and enters the second round one stroke off the lead at the Monroe Invitational Championship at the Monroe Golf Club.
Eldridge, who is coming off his first NCAA tournament appearance, shot 34 on the front nine and closed out the round with a score of 33 on the back nine. He posted five birdies and a pair of bogies on a cool and breezy day that allowed only eight golfers to break par.
Andrew McCain leads the field by a stroke over Eldridge entering the second of four rounds in the stroke play event.
Eldridge’s UNCW teammate Patrick Cover opened with a 76 and is tied for 53rd.
The Monroe Invitational Championship is in its 76th year and is one of the longest running amateur tournaments in the nation.
