WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Port City Track Club brought home 13 medals after competing at the North Carolina Powerade State Games last weekend.
The club took its largest group ever - 35 athletes - to the track and field competition in Durham.
The boys 4x100 meter relay team of De'Shawn Ballard, Cameron Coley-Barnhill, Javonte Smith and ShaQuan Graham took first in the 17-18-year-old age group with a time of 42.24 seconds.
The girls 4x100 meter relay team of Averee Bell, Danyla Brown, Kalaia Peters and Kateria Peters took second in the 9-10 age group.
Other medal winners were Autumn James (first place in the girls high jump and triple jump in the 17-18 division), Zion Murphy (second place in the boys triple jump in the 17-18 division), and De'Shawn Ballard (first place in the 200-meter dash and third place in the 100-meter dash).
"We are now preparing our kids for the big North Carolina State Junior Olympics scheduled for June 24-26 in Greensboro, and plan to have a lot to move on and qualify for Regional Junior Olympics in Landover, MD, and then National Junior Olympics in Sacramento, CA," said coach Rod Bell.
James and Ballard have qualified to compete in the New Balance Outdoor National Championships in Greensboro on June 17-19.
