WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WECT) - June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness month, and the Alzheimer's Association is asking community members to "Take the Purple Pledge."
The association's local chapter is asking people to wear purple and sign up to participate in "The Longest Day" activities.
According to organizers, June 20 marks the summer solstice and is the longest day of the year. However, for those affected by Alzheimer's, every day is the longest day.
People are encouraged to team up with family, friends, and co-workers to spend the day doing something they love, while raising funds and spreading awareness about the disease.
People can do any kind of activity such as hiking or playing bridge. The choices are unlimited and participants can set their own fundraising goals.
Organizer Charlotte Rosenburg is planning an activity day in the Wilmington area on June 18. Teams will gather at Wrightsville Beach Access 23 to participate in numerous activities, including a beach sweep, corn hole toss and boogie boarding.
Tune in to WECT First at Four on June 17 for a live interview with Rosenburg for more details.
