GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina baseball team will make its 28th NCAA Regional appearance after earning an at-large bid in the Charlottesville Regional in this year's NCAA Baseball Championships, which will be held at Davenport Field.
The Pirates (34-21-1), who finished second in the American Athletic Conference regular season standings for the second-straight year, earned a No. 3 seed and will square off against No. 2 Bryant (47-10) in the first round of the regional on Friday, June 3 at 6 p.m. (ET), while host and No. 1 seed Virginia (37-20) will face No. 4 William & Mary (29-29) at 1 p.m.
Pirate fans interested in purchasing tickets for the regional Charlottesville can go online now to buy through Virginia's ticket office. All-session reserved tickets are available for $60, while all-session general admission tickets are currently on sale for $45. All seating in the grandstands, the bleachers along the first-baseline and the left- and right-field bleachers will be reserved. General admission tickets are valid for the grass hillside along the left-field line and for standing room only.
Fans are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets in advance, as it is the only way to guarantee they will be able to attend all tournament games. You can purchase tickets online at VirginiaSports.com/tickets or by phone at (800) 542-8821. The Virginia Ticket Office will open Tuesday, May 31 at 9 a.m. (ET).
If available, single-session tickets for the regional will go on sale to the public on Friday (June 3) from 9 a.m. to noon by phone and online. If available, single-session tickets will be $12 for Reserved and $8 for General Admission.
In recent years the Pirates have faced two of the three clubs in the Charlottesville Regional, most recently Virginia this year where the Pirates claimed a weekend series against the Cavaliers during the second week of the season (Feb. 26-28). The Pirates and Tribe, who are former Colonial Athletic Association foes, have faced off 94 times and most recently in 2013 with William & Mary walking away with a 10-4 victory in Greenville on March 26.
ECU's opening round matchup with Bryant will be the first meeting between the two schools.
Of the 64 teams that were announced Monday, the Pirates own a 13-7 overall record in 2016 against eight institutions: Duke (1-0), NC State (1-1), Rice (1-2), SE Louisiana (1-0), Tulane (1-2), UCONN (5-1), UNC Wilmington (1-0) and Virginia (2-1).
Each of the 16 regionals features four teams, playing a double-elimination format. The regionals will be played from Friday, June 3 to Monday, June 6 (if necessary). Selection of the eight super regional hosts will be announced on www.NCAA.com/cws, Monday, June 1 at approximately 11 p.m. (ET).
The Charlottesville Regional was paired with the Lubbock Regional hosted by No. 5 National Seed Texas Tech, which includes the host No. 1 Raid Raiders, No. 2 seed Dallas Baptist, No. 3 seed New Mexico and No. 4 seed Fairfield.
The 70th Men's College World Series begins play Saturday, June 18, at the TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
