WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

On WECT News First at Four, we shared some tips to help you get prepared for your Memorial Day cookout and make it the party your friends will talk about all summer long.

Liz Inman from Metros Other Woman gave her expert advice.

Here are her four tips for your holiday gathering:

1. Serve a signature drink. Your guests will be in dire need of a cool, refreshing drink! We love this blueberry coconut sparkler as a signature drink. Check out some of our other recommendations and recipes on the Metros Other Woman blog. Some of them include red, white and blue sangria, patriotic Shirley temple, watermelon margaritas and many more.

 2. Go all out with your decorations. You can find great things at Dollar General and Walmart. Why not theme out your party? Use streamers, make banners, and have balloons. Make sure everything is red, white and blue and you are good to go.

3.  Party Favors: Treat your guest with sparklers. You could also buy the kids red, white or blue silly string. Make sure to get hats and decorations. Create a photo booth and take funny pictures using the party favors you got everyone.

4. Keep your menu simple. Hot dogs and hamburgers are the traditional favorites. Just because the menu will be simple doesn't mean it will be boring. You can put your own twist on it and decorate the simple foods to look like something extravagant. We recommend looking for ideas on Pinterest and your favorite blogs. You can always put your own spin on these classics.
